The course aims to provide the knowledge of the recent history of Georgia. It examines the theories of revolution, the events that occurred in Georgia between 1985-1991 and their regional and global context. Georgia of the time will be viewed as a post-colonial, transitional country. Students will be introduced to the socio-economic and political changes in Georgia between 1991-2012 and their consequences. Emphasis will be placed on the process of state building, as well as ethnic conflicts and political and economic crises in post-Soviet Georgia. Students will take a close look at the evolution of Georgia’s foreign policy in recent decades and examine the role of Georgia in a regional and global context.
