ALEXANDER MIKABERIDZE’S BOOK ,,THE NAPOLEONIC WARS: A GLOBAL HISTORY’’ WAS AWARDED A GILDER LEHRMAN PRIZE FOR MILITARY HISTORY

Alexander Mikaberidze, a lecturer in the Master’s Program Modern history of Georgia at Ilia State University, was awarded a Gilder Lehrman Prize in Military History for his book ,,The Napoleonic Wars: A Global History’’ (Oxford: Oxford University Press, 2020).

The prize is given by the Guilder Lerman Institute for American History, one of the largest research centers in the world. The institute was founded in 1994 and its aim is to promote and popularize historical research. The institute works closely with other historic institutions, especially the New York Historical Society. The annual events organized by the Institute have gained recognition and support from the US Presidential Administration, the National Endowment for the Humanities and other organizations.

Among the various awards given by the Institute, the Guilder Lerman Prize is one of the most distinguished in military history.

There is issued 50000 USD premium issued for the best English language book on the military history. It is one of the top book awards in the US, prestigious and distinguished by great prestige and competition.

Leading publishers from the US, UK and Canada have submitted 75 books for the award this year.

The prize committee, whose members are renowned historians, was considered, including the famous British historian Andrew Roberts, who chaired this year’s competition.

By a unanimous decision of the committee, this year’s prize was awarded to Georgian historian Alexander Mikaberidze for his book ,,The Napoleonic Wars: A Global History’’ (Oxford: Oxford University Press, 2020).

It can be boldly said that the work of the Georgian historian has never gained such recognition. We are pleased and proud that Alexander Mikaberidze teaches at Ilia State University for a master’s degree in Modern history of Georgia.
